Hi All

After a lot of head banging, I've come up with what I believe will be a very use full 'package' for XMod. In honor of XMod, I'm calling it XMap.

The Form incorporates a Google Map as well as Googles new geocoder. Supply an address, click 'get coordinates' and viol la, the latitude and longitude are entered into the proper fields and a point is displayed on the map. But wait, the point isn't exactly where it should be, (this happens a lot with all geocoders). That's OK, just click on the map where it should be and the Lat and Lon are updated as well as the point. The map itself is displayed in a <div>, so it can be sized and placed anywhere on the page using a Text/Html module.

The Listview Template also ties into a google map that can be placed anywhere on the page. It displays points for all records that are shown.

I have a working demo set up at http://www.marinapal.com/Dev/geocoder/tabid/314/Default.aspx

I would like to add a lot more functionality before I release it, and would appreciate any feedback or suggestions. The final release will include several variations as well as detailed instructions on how to incorporate the pertinent code into existing forms and templates you may already have.

Thank you,

this looks really cool and is something I was dreaming about for a business directory that I will have on an upcoming web site.

Any chance of a demo that works for the United Kingdom?

Sorry, but the UK isn't covered by the geocoder yet.

From the Google Maps API official blog...

"Street-level geocoding is available for the US, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Spain and Japan. More countries will be added as Google Maps launches in new countries."

http://googlemapsapi.blogspot.com/2006/06/geocoding-at-last.html

Once it's included, it will work automatically. The only change needed is where the map is initially centered.

Ultra cool package for Xmod Scott!!

Will it work with a grid view like it does for a list view?

Any idea when it will be done and released?

Scott,
When a record is added, do you have XMod configured to save the Lat/Long data in with the record? Or is the specified Address geocoded at ListView load time?

And not to be a bother, but do you have an ETA for availability? This addon looks SERIOUSLY useful!

Thanks!

Domain-0,

The Lat and Lon is saved with the other form data.

I've been debating if I shoud try and market this, but I think I'm just going to post the code. I just don't have the time to put together a profesional package. I should have it up next week, with a brief tutorial. I'll post here when it's ready.

Scott

Hi Scott,
I'm having great fun with xmap.

Is it possible to get it to work with a list grid view?

That is take what you have done in the list detail view and apply to a list grid, I tried but no markers where displayed.

TIA
